(Washington, D.C.) –Cynthia Brown, President of the American Shipbuilding Association (ASA), announced today that the Board of Directors of the ASA has appointed two Northrop Grumman executives as new members to the Board. They are Matthew J. Mulherin Vice President and General Manager of Newport News Shipbuilding, and Irwin F. Edenzon, Vice President and General Manager of Gulf Coast Shipbuilding, which includes the Ingalls and Avondale shipyards.
Mulherin earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech in 1981 and began working at Newport News the same year as a nuclear test engineer. He has worked in multiple positions in the organization since then, most recently as Vice President of Operations before being appointed to his current position of Vice President and General Manager of Newport News. He is now responsible for all Newport News site activities, operations, and programs, including the construction of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines.
Edenzon began working at Newport News in 1997 as Director of International Programs. Since joining the company, he has held positions of increasing responsibility, the most recent being Senior VP for Technology Development and Fleet Support before being appointed Vice President and General Manager of Gulf Coast Shipbuilding. In his new role, he will oversee all operations at the Ingalls and Avondale shipyards in Mississippi and Louisiana, respectively. He will also manage Northrop Grumman’s Gulfport, MS facility, Continental Maritime in San Diego, CA, and the AMSEC facilities in Virginia Beach, VA and San Diego. The Gulf Coast shipyards build the U.S. Navy’s destroyers, amphibious assault ships, and Coast Guard cutters.
The American Shipbuilding Association is the national trade association of the shipbuilding industry. ASA members include the nation’s six largest shipyards and 87 companies engaged in the manufacture of ship systems and components. |
