Company Highlights:
Nelson Stud Welding is committed to delivering value to our customers through service and leading technology products. In business for 68 years, we are ISO 9002 and 14001 certified, and serve the worldwide shipbuilding industry. We manufacture hand held stud welding equipment systems, automated and robotic systems, and a complete line of stud welded fasteners and cold-formed parts. We are a global company, headquartered in Elyria Ohio, which provides its goods and services to naval architects, engineers and constructors.

Overview:
Ted Nelson, a welder at Mare Island shipyard during World War 2, invented the stud welding process. He discovered a more efficient way to secure wood decking to the carrier decks, and his stud welding invention earned two Navy “E” citations, crediting the stud welding process with saving millions of labor man-hours during the war. Still today, stud welding is an integral part of ship construction. Nelson teams with designers and engineers to continually expand the scope of applications and push the technology front. Recent Nelson developments include HY 80 & HY 100 studs for submarine applications, and a closed loop microprocessor based weld system with a process monitoring and diagnostic capability. And the newest product is a 1500 amp, lightweight & portable inverter based weld system capable of welding 5/8” diameter studs.
